A recent report by the national competition regulator found that ADSL was the most popular broadband technology in Australia, with around 70 percent of broadband services being ADSL.

There is a great deal of competition between Australian ISPs and as a result the packages they offer for ADSL.

The fastest internet option available in Australia is currently ADSL2+. This technology uses your existing telephone line and may be bundled with your mobile phone, landline or pay TV. ADSL2+ is your best option if it is available in your area.

In the areas where ADSL2+ is yet to become available, the alternatives are ADSL1, cable, satellite or wireless broadband access.

Check out the different providers and plans as they are quite variable and it is worth the effort to find the best fit for your needs.

It may be worth asking your family and friends who live in your area about their internet provider. They can provide information about the cost, speeds, amount of drop outs, internet availability and quality of service provided by the ISP they use.
